Joint Pain Treatment San Clemente and Orange County, CA

Joint pain is a problem that confronts many Americans. Joint pain can range from mild to severe and impairs those afflicted in an enormous range of activities. Most common joint pain treatments help alleviate the pain but do not combat the problem itself, leading to a reliance on medication that the body will begin to build immunity towards.

Help Your Body Heal Itself

Our joints constitute essential parts of our body. Joints are the junctions where our bones meet. To function properly, joints rely on healthy cartilage, tendons, muscles, ligaments, and synovial fluid. With so many moving parts, our joints have many opportunities to sustain trauma or deteriorate with age. With regenerative medicine, you can help your body heal itself by optimizing your innate healing processes. Stem cell treatments use the building blocks of our cells to revitalize and regenerate tissue in the joints.

Dr. David Steenblock has been practicing personalized regenerative medicine for decades.

As one of the leading practitioners in the field, he has developed thousands of treatment plans for grateful patients who could not find relief through the conventional means of drugs and surgery. If you’re experiencing joint pain and want to discover if regenerative medicine can help relieve your pain, contact Dr. Steenblock at Personalized Regenerative Medicine by calling our San Clemente, CA office: (949) 367-8870.

What Is Joint Pain?

Joint pain can be inflammation, discomfort, and pain from any part of a joint. That includes bone, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, and even muscles. Associated symptoms include redness, swelling, stiffness, and weakness of a joint. Usually, when people say they have joint pain, there exists inflammation from the joint capsule itself such as the knee joint.

Causes of Joint Pain

Some of the most common causes of joint pain are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and trauma. As we age, the cumulative effects of gravity can gradually wear down our joints. If we participate in intense activities, that can exacerbate the natural wearing down of our joints.

Osteoarthritis (OA)

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease and is the most common type of joint disease in the USA. Most people over the age of 50 experience some form of osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage protecting the bone wears down over time or with extensive use. It is very common in the hip, knee, and thumb joints. The symptoms include stiffness, soreness, pain, and the loss of flexibility in that joint. This is the ‘wear and tear’ type of arthritis.

What Is Osteoarthritis?

Typically, conventional treatments include over-the-counter painkillers like ibuprofen, Aleve, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). If that doesn’t reduce the pain, conventional medical injections such as steroid and gel synovial fluid-like injections are attempted.

Some research is suggesting that by taking these NSAIDs, people can actually be preventing their joints from recovering. In the European journal, Orthopedics Today, researchers discovered that NSAIDs and COX-2 inhibitors can impair the repair of tendon, bone, and cartilage.[1]

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)

Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune condition where the body’s immune system attacks the joints. The immune system engages in an ongoing campaign against your joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is a whole-body condition. RA is not localized, so usually the joints on both sides of the body suffer from the same symptoms. Over time, if left untreated, rheumatoid arthritis can lead to the erosion of the bones and further breakdown of the joints.

Trauma-Induced Joint Pain

Joint trauma includes any injury that affects the joint and gradual trauma that results from overuse of a joint (such as “jumper’s knee” or “tennis elbow”). Trauma can cause immediate joint pain or it can contribute to the gradual deterioration of joints later in life by weakening specific components such as the cartilage.

Joint pain treatments focus on the long-term alleviation from pain. Sometimes that relief comes in the form of de-intensifying the peaks of sharp pain. Other times, it means reducing the chronic symptoms and managing persistent pain. An accompanying benefit to treating pain is living a healthy lifestyle that reduces the risk of other conditions arising. Maintaining healthy habits benefits our bodies (and thus our mental state) over the long term. To learn more about the benefits of pain treatments, you can follow our blog.

How Does Regenerative Medicine Help?

stem cell therapy San Clemente and Orange County, CA

Studies have shown that regenerative therapy for osteoarthritis of joints can be very effective in not only improving symptoms such as pain reduction and a greater range of motion but also in repairing cartilage loss. They have done studies and MRI images of knee joints before and after treatments that show improved cartilage healing rates compared to those that didn’t receive biologic injections. Best of all, there were no adverse reactions during treatment.[2]

Another study showed that mesenchymal stem cells were especially helpful in reducing all osteoarthritis knee symptoms for all the patients that received treatment for over a year.[3]

Meaningful Results

Research continues to show the promise of biologic regenerative medicine. One study shows how adding growth factors to regenerative treatments resulted in higher healing rates for joint cartilage.[4] Another case study used MRI data and found improvement in cartilage growth and tissue repair along with a boost in the patient’s quality of life.[5] Research continues to show promising results from regenerative medicine.
