Dr. Steenblock, I thought you would want to know that even though it has been a year, I have actually taken steps without any assistance. I walked 32 feet. Yes, it was not perfect, and it took 5 minutes and 2 seconds. And only recently I have actually been able to move my thumb and index finger on my left hand toward each other. I know from my research that with catastrophic strokes such as mine, to be able to see amazing improvement, it generally takes at least three rounds of stem cells. Unfortunately, that is not financially possible for me as I am now destitute on SSI and Medicaid, but I was hoping that as you have a new technique you may be looking for subjects in a study! If you are looking for someone committed to recovery with a never give up attitude, who is defying everything she has been told by traditional doctors (which was to expect to spend the rest of my life in diapers in assisted living), I am your candidate. While I cannot live independently yet, I continue to go to therapy and even today I walked about 60 ft, then went to the Ability 360 gym and leg pressed 155 lbs x 45 reps before arm cycling for 55 minutes. On my days not in therapy or at the gym, I use my nustep and pedal for 1-2 hours. In between this, I work on balance exercises and use a mirror box for my hand training. Needless to say, if you are looking for candidates for your new harvesting technique who will show how effective these stem cells are, I am your candidate. Btw, something very strange has happened and I believe that it also relates to stem cells, but do not know how to prove it. The day before my stroke, I had black hair with a few grays, the day after my stroke, I had mostly gray hair. Now my hair is turning black again, so much so I have had more than one person asking me if I am dying it. It is not yet as black as it was, but it is certainly more black than it was a year ago. Also my seizures are less frequent and way less severe. Lasting only a minute to a minute 30 seconds and I went more than 2 months before I had the last one. So while I may be a work in progress, I can now walk myself to a bathroom. I can stand in front of a sink and brush my teeth. Things I was lead to believe would never be possible. Thank you for what you have done for me, you truly are my gift from God, I just know we are not yet finished!

Patient is doing really, really well. Learned how to sit up independently. Using gait trainer to stand and propel forward for the first time. Between intensive PT and other therapies, along with three rounds of stem cells, patient has shown significant and steady progress. Patients first brain MRI was done at 12 weeks showing diffuse areas of damage and 20-30 cystic pockets where there appeared to be no brain matter at all. Recently had a repeat MRI which looked completely different and included only 2 cystic pockets, one on the right, and one on the left side of the brain. Family has an appointment with a Neurologist soon to discuss the changes and talk about possible genetic testing vs. the original CP diagnosis. This is the patients 3rd round of stem cells since she was a year old and we do not know anything else that could have caused those brain changes. Want to come back to do more, maybe at the beginning of next year. Family is very pleased with patients improvements.
so much change
I am doing much more around the house (yard work, cooking, cleaning, etc.) I think everyone is surprised at my overall improvement in health. They are definitely surprised at my change in diet (now I prefer vegetables and fruits).
The HBO technicians go far beyond the job of just placing the patients in the hyperbaric chambers. They joke and encourage the patients, helping them see life in the most positive and encouraging light. The laughter and friendship have meant so much.
